What Google reports
Six checks that are not observations of ours at all. Once a day, for every watched page on a site with a linked Search Console property, CrawlWarden asks Google what its index says about that page and reports when the answer changes. Every line is attributed to Google, because it is Google's statement: when Google is slow or wrong, the alert says so in Google's name. Four are on by default; robots state and last crawled are available but start switched off.
Why Google's word matters as much as ours
Every other check here predicts what Google will do from what the page says. These report what Google actually did. A noindex tag is a prediction; Google listing the page as excluded by noindex is the outcome, and it is the outcome that costs traffic.
They also answer at any traffic level. A page with ten visits a month has no traffic curve to watch, but Google still holds a verdict on it, and that verdict changing is news whatever the page earns.
Built so Google doing its job is not an alert
Google reports "Submitted and indexed" and "Indexed, not submitted in sitemap" as different states. The difference is sitemap membership, which the indexability group already watches, so both count as indexed here. Otherwise every sitemap rebuild would read as an index change.
The last crawl time moves every time Google visits. Comparing it directly would alert on every crawl, so the check reports which window the age falls in (under 14 days, 14 to 30, 30 to 60, over 60) and speaks only when the page crosses into an older one.
Google's chosen canonical is compared the way the page's own canonical is: a trailing slash or a www prefix is never news. A chosen canonical disappearing altogether is, and is reported.
All 6 checks in this group
Google index status
on by default · · confirmed over 2 runs
Google's index status for the page changed.
Google stopped listing the page as indexed, or started. The raw state Google gave, such as crawled but not indexed, is in the evidence every time.
Google-selected canonical
on by default · · confirmed over 2 runs
Google chose a different canonical for the page.
Google decided another URL speaks for this page, or stopped naming one at all. The canonical the page declares is shown beside it, so the disagreement is visible.
Google fetch result
on by default · · confirmed over 3 runs
Google's last fetch of the page had a different result.
Google's last fetch of the page ended differently: blocked, a server error, a soft 404. Confirmed over three days, because a single failed fetch on Google's side is common.
Google indexing allowed
on by default · · confirmed over 2 runs
Google now sees the page as blocked from indexing, or no longer blocked.
Google now reads the page as blocked from indexing by a noindex in the HTML or a header, or no longer blocked. The outcome of the robots checks, from Google's side.
Google robots.txt verdict
off by default · · confirmed over 3 runs
Google's robots.txt verdict for the page changed.
Off by default. The robots.txt check here sees the same block from our own fetch, usually days before Google does. Turn this on to have Google's word for it as well.
Google last crawled
off by default · · confirmed over 2 runs
Google has not crawled the page recently.
Off by default, because rarely crawled pages are normal on many sites. Speaks when Google's last visit to the page falls into an older window: 14, 30 or 60 days.
Every check on this page is available on every plan, including the free one - limits are on sites and URLs, never on checks. CrawlWarden pricing, per site rather than per URL.
